Below are a number of upcoming adventure races listed in a not so chronological order. For more of an adventure racing calendar use the links on the right to read through upcoming races by month.

Ozark Greenways Adventure Race – May 22

  • Where: Gasconade Hills Resort, Richland, MO 65556
  • Disciplines: running, trekking, mountain biking, orienteering and paddling

This is a multi-sport challenge event featuring running, trekking, mountain biking, orienteering and paddling. All course distance, maps and itinerary are kept secret until race morning.

There are three different categories of competition, with a Masters Division for each category: TEAM — must be a co-ed (ratio up to you) group of four DOUBLE — two people (same sex or co-ed) SOLO — you do it all on your own!

Big Blue Adventure Race: Red Tail – May 8, 2010

  • Where: Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore, CA
  • Length: 8 hours
  • Teams: Solo – 4 person with male, female, coed and masters divisions
  • Disciplines: Kayaking (7+ miles), Mtn Biking (15+ miles), Trekking (5-8 miles)

GO Urban Philadelphia – April 10, 2010

  • When: April 10, 2010 At Noon

GO Urban runs on-foot urban adventure races which relies heavily on SMS messaging to guide the race. We’ve never done one of their races, but let’s jsut say that they look really fun.

Register before the race and its $70 per team, $100 per team on the day of race.

Desert Winds 12 Hr – January 16, 2010

  • When: January 16, 2010, 9am start time
  • Where: Lake Mead National Recreation Area (about an hour outside of Las Vegas, Nevada)
  • Teams: Teams of 3 or 4-Person COED or 3 or 4-person ALL FEMALE teams are the Primary Teams. Solo, 2-person, and all male teams are also allowed.
  • Disciplines: Trekking, Mountain Biking & Paddling

Endurance Sports Summer Groove 2009

  • Where: Loomis Lodge, Newaygo, Michigan
  • Length: 15 hour unsupported. From 3:00am to 6:00pm
  • Teams: Solo, 2 person coed, male (M/M), female (F/F), 4 person coed
  • Disciplines: Orienteering, Mountain Biking, Canoeing, Trekking and Ropes

Not sure why the “Summer” Groove is in the middle of October, but it still looks like a fun race. More information available on race website…

Odyssey AR Rogaine – Nov 7 & 8 2009

  • Where: Douthat State Park, VA
  • Length: 24 or 8 hour race
  • Teams: Solo – 4 person teams
  • Disciplines: Orienteering, Trekking

Interesting 4 zone rogaine format to challenge you from both a distance and time standpoint over the course of the race.

From the race website: “There will be numerous checkpoints in each zone with different point values. The ones closest to headquarters will have a lower point value and the ones further away and in more difficult to find locations will have a higher value. Competitors will have a limited amount of time in each zone, and will be required to check in at headquarters for safety before venturing into the next zone. For every minute they come in after the time limit, they will be deducted 10 points.”

Racing Ahead 3 Hour Beginner Race – New Hampshire

  • When: September 12th
  • Where: Pawtuckaway State Park, Nottingham, NH
  • Length: 10-12 miles
  • Teams: 2 person only
  • Disciplines: Mountain bike, Canoe paddle, and Run/walk with navigation involved.

Urban Dare Orlando

  • When: Sat. November 14, 2009 12:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time)
  • Length: Around 2-4 hours over 5-7 miles
  • Teams: Teams of 2 only

Urban mini adventure race in downtown Orlando that includes trivia, photo hunts and various physical challenges. Definitely more of a fun type race than athletic, but could be a great way to introduce someone to adventure racing.
